Psychologist and Vietnam Veteran Dr. Tony Luick Talks about Secondary PTSD
I recently traveled to Vietnam with Dr. Tony Luick, President and Founder of a non-profit, non-political organization called American Veterans Quest for Peace, Inc . One of Dr. Luick’s goals is to raise funding and to create opportunities to enable American Veterans of the Vietnam War and their families to be able to return to Vietnam for education and healing. As a family and child psychologist, Dr. Luick has extensive experience treating Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in veterans and children of veterans. As he points out in this short interview, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Health (DSM-4) does not currently recognize intergenerational or vicarious/secondary PTSD, but he believes that it exists.
