Casper College ranked #1 veterans program among small community colleges nationwide

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – With Wyoming having one of the highest veteran population percentages in the nation, it makes sense that colleges here have some of the best veteran programs in the nation. In fact, Casper College has the number 1 ranked veteran program among all small community colleges in the United States. Casper College was also the first community college to be ranked in the top 5 among all other college veterinary programs nationwide.

Nick Whipps, Casper Colleges Military Student and Veteran Services Coordinator, said: “So this year we were given the great honor of being named the nation’s first small military friend community college, and it was so cool because we pride ourselves on creating an atmosphere for students to come to Casper College and succeed.

The program recently opened a new multipurpose room in the colleges’ Walter H. Nolte Gateway building. This area will be the Veteran Resource Center and will be a safe place for Veterans to hang out and meet other Veterans. They will also have two study areas in this new office.

“We want to do everything in our power to provide space and create an atmosphere where everyone in our community can come and feel welcome and all of our students can not only succeed, but thrive here at Casper College and when they leave. “, said Nick.

The veterans program also operates outside of the college in the community of Casper. It’s about helping vets get involved in the community and possibly helping them find jobs after college. One of the ways the program will reach out is to organize a traveling memorial. They will also be hosting a free, open Military Appreciation BBQ for Casper veterans.
