Community Foundation donates to Veterans Community Park | Clubs And Organizations

The City Council accepts a donation from the Community Foundation of Collier.

It was a bit like Christmas in June, when Marco Island City Council Speaker Jared Grifoni came down from the stage twice to receive donations from two separate entities. The two organizations presenting checks that evening were the Community Foundation of Collier County and the Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC).

The Collier County Community Foundation was established in 1985 as a tax-exempt nonprofit charitable foundation. The Foundation conducts its work in collaboration with its donors, grant recipients and local community leaders to meet needs within the community.

That evening, the Community Foundation presented the city with a check for $50,000 to help plant new trees as part of the long-awaited construction of the Veterans Community Park on Marco Island.

At a recent reception with Eileen Connolly-Keesler, CEO and Executive Director of the Foundation, Councilor Erik Brechnitz briefed her on the park’s ongoing development. The Foundation had helped fund the replacement of many trees damaged or destroyed during Hurricane Irma in 2017 as part of its environmental efforts in Collier County.

Brechnitz was also instrumental in founding the Marco Island Community Parks Foundation, whose purpose is to facilitate the ability of donors to donate to improve parks around the community.

“This is a tremendous investment not only in our community, but also in the environment that makes Collier County such a wonderful place to live for all of us,” Brechnitz said.

The Community Foundation is also heavily involved in raising awareness through public education and providing support services to address the growing needs in Collier County. Issues such as housing and hunger, education and employment assistance, assistance for the elderly and veterans, environmental and accessibility issues, as well as disaster relief. of crisis and disaster. Another aspect of his involvement is in raising awareness of mental health and addiction issues.
