The 63-year-old discovered his windfall after returning from a round of golf.
He said, “I couldn’t believe it; I was shocked.
“You don’t think this will ever happen to you – it’s just an amazing feeling!”
John started playing the Veterans Lottery in August 2021.
He added: “I was a funeral director and buried a lot of other Black Watch soldiers, young boys killed in service, so that really brings him home, you know.
“The ex-servicemen I golf with have all said they’ll step up to help as well.”
