Lubbock Hospice “We Honor Veterans” Program

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – On this week’s Pay It Forward show, the WestTex Federal Credit Union is stopping by the Hospice of Lubbock to Pay it Forward to a program that helps our local veterans.

KCBD received a nomination from Angela Boyd. She said she works at the VA hospital and offered the program called We Honor Veterans through Hospice of Lubbock.

“I refer our veterans to them all the time. I’ll ask the girls, can you all help them with this? can you help them with that?’ and she’ll say, ‘I can’t promise you anything’ and I get a call back, and they did more than we asked,” Boyd said.

The We Honor Veterans of Lubbock program is a national program through the hospice. The Lubbock Chapter is made up of approximately 15 board members.

“Our mission is really to help veterans with immediate needs,” said Rose Chase, who works with Hospice of Lubbock and is part of the “We Honor Veterans” program.

The program has a pantry stocked with food, hygiene products and more. Chase said community support and donations help keep shelves stocked.

Chase calls the community support “phenomenal” and whenever the organization posts items on the bare shelves, the community responds by donating needed items.

Chase said they also hold fundraisers to raise money to help veterans.

“We use them a lot at Thanksgiving and Christmas to help families of veterans who have kids, and the kids wouldn’t have Christmas if they didn’t have help.”
