Veterans’ charity launches March for Erskine fundraiser

ONE of Renfrewshire’s best-known charities is encouraging local residents to get involved in its latest fundraising campaign.

The Erskine Veterans’ Charity is urging supporters to get out their trainers and boots to take part in a sponsored marching event in March.

People of all ages can set their own walk goals or join family and friends to collectively raise funds for the charity, which provides vital support to veterans.

The fundraising month will end with a 3k event, which will take place at the Veterans Village at The Erskine Home, Bishopton on Saturday 26th March.

Local residents are invited to celebrate fundraising month by attending the Family Fun Day, which will include a scavenger hunt for children as well as food stalls and entertainment.

Award-winning accordionist Gary Innes, who was named an Erskine Ambassador last year, recently helped launch this year’s March for Erskine event.

Gary’s association with the veterans’ charity dates back to 2015, when he premiered Scotland’s first collaborative charity folk single with a piece of music he composed titled Our Heroes.

The 41-year-old told The Gazette: “It’s been a tough two years for everyone, but as a shred of normalcy seems to be starting to return, it’s fantastic to step onto the pitch at Erskine and launch this fantastic initiative.

“It’s great to be joined by some of the staff, families and four-legged friends who are taking part in this year’s Walk for Erskine, and I’m honored to be able to walk alongside them.

“I’ll even take my accordion out for a walk throughout the month and play music along the way – there are no rules, just take your steps and raise money for this amazing charity .”

Ian Cumming MBE, Managing Director of Erskine, said: “By participating in our March for Erskine events, our supporters will help provide the high level of care that our veterans so deserve.

“The Walk for Erskine is the perfect opportunity to get outside, fall behind and support our nation’s veterans through fitness and fun.

“We are delighted to be hosting this fantastic event again.”
