Veteran’s charity to host final march for Erskine event

ONE of Renfrewshire’s best-known charities is encouraging people to attend a Family Fun Day this weekend to help raise vital funds.

Veterans’ charity Erskine will hold the grand finale of its latest fundraising campaign, which will see veterans, families and local residents compete in a 3k event on Saturday.

The event will take place at The Erskine Home in Bishopton and is the culmination of a month of virtual fundraising, with supporters digging up their boots to take part in the sponsored marching event in March.

In addition to participating in the 3km walk, people of all ages can enjoy a day of family fun that will include a scavenger hunt, as well as food stalls and entertainment.

Joanna Martin, who is a former RAF Auxiliary, told The Gazette: “The 3km live march is a chance for those who didn’t make it to the virtual event to join in the fun, as well as raising money for such a fantastic charity that took great care of me when I needed it most.

Army Veteran Danny Mavor said: ‘The route through the beautiful Erskine Veterans Village is excellent, suitable for bikes, chairs and pushchairs and there are plenty of seats along the way. for those who want to take their time.

“It’s going to be a brilliant day with all the profits going to Erskine. I can’t say enough good things about Erskine and the care he provides.

All funds raised at the event will be used to transform the lives of nearly 1,000 veterans and their families supported by Erskine each year.

Zee Fletcher, Events Manager at Erskine, added: “We are absolutely delighted with the response to our March for Erskine virtual event and are sure the live event will be just as good.

“We have organized a fantastic day, a day that everyone will enjoy. We look forward to welcoming everyone on Saturday March 26th.

Ian Cumming MBE, Managing Director of Erskine, added: “By participating in our March for Erskine events, our supporters will help provide the high level of care that our veterans so deserve.

“The Erskine Walk is the perfect opportunity to get outside, fall behind and support our nation’s veterans through fitness and fun.”
